The Sneads
Ferry Rotary Club was charter in 1993 with 25 members. John
Henderson was the first president and from the very
beginning the club’s primary focus has been to help the
needy, elderly and youth of our community. During a typical
year, now we are active in over 30 projects.
In addition to
the local projects, the club participates in international
endeavors, polio eradication and the Joe Andes Project in
South America.
The club has
now grown to 45 members and has become a more diverse
group. In addition to the usual business people, there are
a good number of women and retired people. This diversity
has added to the personality of the club.
The Sneads
Ferry Rotary Club has become the primary organization in the
community where needs and actions are addressed. Illnesses,
fires, family problems and a number of other issues are
readily taken on by the club.
The club’s
primary fund-raising project is the Sneads Ferry King
Mackerel Tournament held each year in August. This money
now over $30,000.00 funds all the many projects done by the
club. The three main projects done each year include: The
Percy Jenkins Senior Citizens Dinner, the high school
scholarship program and the annual giving during Christmas.
In addition, the club is involved in: support for scouts,
Ryla, a rotary leadership training for high school juniors,
support for the Winter Fest, Lake Wacamaw Boys and Girls
Home, Caring for Kids, Fire Departments, Project Graduation,
drug eradication just to name a few.
Service above
self is not just a slogan but a real part of what our Rotary
Club is about on a daily basis. We will continue to be the
lead organization in the area when needs are identified.
