THE ROTARY FOUNDATION

The Rotary Foundation operates exclusively for charitable and educational purposes by the Trustees of the Rotary Foundation in accordance with the Foundation’s articles of incorporation and bylaws. 

Although Rotary International first met in 1905, the Rotary Foundation was created in 1917 at the Atlanta Convention, when President Arch C. Klump suggested that the Foundation should begin accepting endowments for the purpose of doing well in the world.  The fund, having been slow to materialize, came into existence a year later as the Rotary Endowment Fund with an initial contribution of $26.50 from the Rotary Club of Kansas City, Missouri.  

Although the Rotary Foundation is part of Rotary International each has different functions.  Rotary International is a grassroots fellowship of business, professional and community and community leaders, coming together to provide service to others; promote integrity and advance world understanding, goodwill and peace.

ROTARY FOUNDATION MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.

The Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and friends of the Foundation who share its vision of a better world.
